Is there a grading system?
Krav Maga gradings are unique compared to many traditional martial arts. There is no belt system. Instead, the Krav Maga Global (KMG) grading structure is divided into four categories: Practitioner, Graduate, Expert, and Master. Each category contains several levels that reflect a student’s progress, skill, and experience in self defense.
How does it work?
The KMG grading system is designed to help you progressively develop the skills needed for effective self defense to protect yourself and your loved ones. Lower grades focus on fundamental striking skills and core principles, while higher grades introduce more advanced and specialized self defense techniques.
Practitioner Level
The Practitioner level is the starting point for student members in Krav Maga classes and includes five grades, from P1 to P5. Students typically grade one to two times per year at this level. At least every second grading is conducted by a member of the KMG Global or International team to ensure that standards in KMG Hobart remain at the highest level.
Graduate Level
Graduate level represents advanced students and qualified Krav Maga instructors who have successfully completed all Practitioner grades. Reaching this level generally takes 3 to 5 years of consistent training in Krav Maga classes. Graduate students typically grade once per year.
Expert Level
Expert level is reserved for highly experienced practitioners and senior instructors who demonstrate exceptional technical skill, tactical understanding, and teaching ability. Progression at this level requires long-term dedication and continued development. Expert gradings are conducted infrequently and only under strict assessment standards. Expert grading patches reflect the senior status of this level within the KMG system.
